Harry Maguire is struggling with time to get fit right ahead of England’s opening match against Croatia in Euro 2020 on June 13, said Gareth Southgate.
The Manchester United captain suffered an ankle injury last month that saw him miss several games at the end of the season, including when the Red Devils lost to Villarreal in the Europa League (UEL) final.
Southgate, however, still lists the center -back as his 26 best players ahead of the Euros, as he confirmed yesterday.
However, the England manager admitted that he was also not sure whether the 28 -year -old had time to fully recover or not ahead of the opening match against Croatia.
“We’re still not sure. It’s a bit difficult for the first match (against Croatia), that’s for sure,” he said when pressed on Maguire’s latest situation.
“I think he’s a good player and we have a bigger squad, the fact is with his leadership attitude getting more and more pronounced over time, we want to take this opportunity to bring him in this squad.”
