Lionel Messi is set to play for Manchester City after his future is yet to be determined at Barcelona, according to Pablo Zabaleta.
Barca star Messi will be out of contract this season and the six-time Ballon Or winner has been linked with Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and English Premier League (EPL) giants City.
Migrating to City for Messi means he will return to former Barca manager Pep Guardiola – who won two Champions League (UCL) titles and three LaLiga titles between 2008 and 2012.
Former City and Argentina defender Zabaleta backed his compatriot from Barcelona to Manchester.
“If Lionel Messi decides to leave Barcelona and he wants to play in the best league, then he should have his own experience in the EPL,” Zabaleta said.
“This is something that interests him – because every player I know always asks me what it feels like to play in the EPL.
“eo has been in La Liga for many years and I think it will be a great attraction for him to experience English football. And Manchester City offer the perfect situation.
“He knows Pep very well, he knows [sports director] Txiki Begiristain and [chief executive] Ferran Soriano – and also Sergio Aguero.
“This would be a big decision if Leo left Barcelona. But if that is what he wants, then it is good for him to go to a club that already has people who can help him adjust.
“When you are in a club for so long, moving to a new place can be very strange.
“I’m sure clubs like PSG and Juventus are also interested in getting it, but my view is that City is the best place to move after Barcelona.”
