Luka Modric signed a one -year extension with Real Madrid, ending speculation about his future.
The former Ballon d’Or winner’s original contract is nearing its end but he will now remain with Madrid until June 2022.
Modric has had a glorious career with the club since joining him from Tottenham Hotspur nine years ago.
He has won four Champions League (UCL) titles during that period and remains a major milestone at the age of 35.
The club’s president, Florentino Perez, in April confirmed that a deal had been reached but no announcement was made until last night – three days after the end of the league competition, in which Madrid lost the LaLiga title to local rivals Atletico Madrid.
Modric has made 35 LaLiga appearances this season and the experienced player once won the Ballon d’Or Award in 2018 after leading the Croatian national team to the World Cup final.
