ROME: Gareth Southgate praised the England squad who are getting closer to making new history after his side advanced to the semi-finals of Euro 2020 by beating Ukraine 4-0 at the Stadio Olimpico.
England are scheduled to meet Denmark at Wembley on Wednesday after recording their biggest win in the knockout stages, eliminating Adriy Shevchenko’s side through two goals from Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson.
Southgate praised the performance of his men and the success sketched in Rome further brightened the golden opportunity for them to emerge as European champions.
“The team is going through a twist of journey and they are facing some difficulties to keep going,” the England manager said.
“We enjoyed some great nights over the last four years, but we also faced disappointing nights and we learned from all that experience. It helped us to get ready for another tournament.
“Moments like tonight, we don’t want to step back anymore. We want to take this opportunity fully rather than hoping to win or just surrender to destiny.”
