LONDON: Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed he is deeply interested in Luis Suarez and is trying to sign the Uruguay player for Paris Saint-Germain before the striker moved from Barcelona to Atletico Madrid in September.
And Atletico coach Diego Simeone admitted yesterday that Suarez would be the club’s main hope of beating Chelsea in the last 16 of the Champions League early tomorrow morning.
After seven games as Chelsea manager, Tuchel has yet to lose to the club from London in fifth place in the Premier League apart from advancing to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup.
However, the German operator is aware that he will face the biggest challenge of Atletico who have extensive experience in the knockout competition of the Champions League under Simeone.
“This is definitely the biggest test – sports, mental and physical,” Tuchel said. “This is a very experienced club at this level, an experienced coach who is hard to resist.
“It’s clear what you get when you play against Atletico. You’re going through a tough match and a lot of teams are already going through it.”
